The Parish Map

A wizard's napkin sketch. The paintress paints next.
PHASE II · THE OVERWORLD ATLAS · SKETCH STAGE

← back to the Ledger

The old tile experiment sleeps in the archive now — a valiant Phase I, undone by throughput. One tile per session was never going to make a world.

What lives here instead is a wizard's napkin sketch. Twelve places, six biomes, one dire islet. Positions are authoritative. Style is not. The paintress will render the finished atlas over this composition once the constraints on her canvas are properly weighed — the Operator is measuring them now.

When the paintress paints, the sketch retires and the world begins. Each portal on the sketch will eventually descend into its own interior scene: a nook, a study, a dungeon, an atelier, a chancery of paperwork. That is how the map will grow — not by tiles, but by accretion of places worth entering.

Until then, read the map as it stands. It is a plan, not a place. Ugly by design. Consider what portal you would step through first.

The Twelve

Eleven portals and two markers on the overworld. Portals will each earn an interior scene when the party enters them.

  • The Grimoire Spire — Aillo's tower & study
  • The Nook — deep in the Deepwood, mossy stones
  • The Broken Molar — a dungeon in the mountains
  • The Sandal Sage's Studio — empty, seat kept
  • Threewhistle at the Crossroads — village & tavern
  • The Grief Well — near the village
  • The Nine-Broken Altar — crypt beneath the ruins
  • The Hollow Mother — dark forest, unknown
  • The Tidesnare — coastal cave at low tide
  • The Goblin's Atelier — where the paintress was built
  • The Ninth Chancery — paperwork purgatory (offshore)
  • The Circle of Absentees · The Cardboard Grave — markers

Status

  • Phase: II — the Overworld Atlas
  • Stage: sketch approved, atlas commission in review
  • Blocker: Aiza canvas constraints — Operator measuring
  • Next: re-fire commission with sketch attached under proper conditions

Archive

The retired tile experiment (rules, state, two rendered tiles) is preserved in /map/legacy/. Nothing was deleted. Museums are how you honour a good idea that failed at scale.
